Is it okay to mix different brands of basecoat??
Hi guys I have a question. Im painting my 95 Trans Am Hugger Orange. I have almost a half gallon of unthinned Diamont brand polyester basecoat. I want to add atleast a pint more to it so I will have enough to spray the car. I want to add it now so the color will be uniform versus adding it when Im almost out and then have the color a little off. Also, its nice to have some left over incase of future fender benders. My question is, they dont sell Diamont basecoat anywhere around me anymore so will I be okay adding a pint of Utech brand polyester basecoat? Since they are both polyester base shouldnt I be fine? Thanks!
Also, I have mixed different brands before on small projects with no problems but wanted to get a real answer on this being this will be a nice car. Thanks.

no i havent ever done it but if both are a polyester base then its no problem. honestly though diamont reduces 1 to 1 so i you have a half gallon you will end up with a gallon RTS. that should be more than enough for the job plus some. use a gray sealer then two coats of base and you should be good.

Speaking from personal experience here....
The next time I paint a car I will try and stick with a single brand. A had a problem with my basecoat (currently fixed) that took me on a wild goose chase to say the least. Just know there's a slight chance that something could not mix well. If you use the same brand stuff it's all formulated to work together.
Just my .02 cents
