The car is a 99 base formula with 145k miles.

Someone backed out of a parking spot and t-boned me as i was driving by.

EDIT: I'm not fixing it myself, and I'm not letting anyone use bondo on it. The other guy's insurance is paying for it, since i wasnt at fault. I would actually prefer it be totaled, so i can transplant the powertrain into a lower mileage V6 car that's not a POS yet.

get the blue book value of your car and an estimate of the repair cost. That should give you a better idea of wether it should be salvaged or not.

IMO it shouldnt but insurance companies dont always agree with one.

The private party value is $4500. It would cost most of that to replace the door and wuarter panel, and it would still have damage on the other side.

the door is salvagable. for certain. the quarter panel. you need to either pul it with a tap in puller or via cut off beat out smooth. weld it back on. and then bondo. paint it to match and bam done. honestly....probably about a 400 dollar job if all the work is done yourself

Most likely yes. Depending on your insurance company 40-60% of market valve is totaled.

For insurance maybe. Personally hell no. You could pick those parts up for cheap i bet and put a little work into it yourself and get it done. Then all you have left is the expense off those parts getting painted.

The point is I'm not doing it myself, since it was the other guy's fault. and nobody is using bondo if they do fix it. the door and quarter panel will be replaced completely.

If they DO total it, I already located a few V6 cars in much better shape to do a transplant.

Ive heard of Insurance fixing that type of damage... Guess it all depends on where you take it to get the quote and how highend they are..

If you want it totalled find the most expensive body shop in your area to get a quote from. Every area has that shop thats typically 10-15% higher than everyone else.

i hate to break it to you, but "bondo" (or body filler) is the standard practice to repairing vehicles.

Doesnt matter if they repair the quarter panel, or replace it. Body filler will be used.

That being said, the nightmare situation associated with "bondo" is when unqualified techs use it without fixing a panel correctly first. basically just caking it on.

Has anyone noticed that these parts, specifically on the driver side are always where fbodies ******* get hit? Mine got hit, in that same spot, and I've seen at least easily 20 fbodies over the past year for sale or being parted out that have been hit in the same spot, in the same exact way. Always a bit of the door, and the driver rear quarter panel.

I know it's always used in light proportions regardless. That's a given. I was talking about trying to repair this quarter panel without replacing it.
