Default Questions on Rust

Looking at getting a 2002 LS1 with 52k miles....Car is originally from OHIO and was there until 2013.

Below are some pics of the motor and to me personally it looks to have a fairly good amount of rust. The car was also just repainted (im assuming due to paint bubbling)

My question is am I being paranoid, or does this look a little TOO rusted to not have a concern

The rusty bolts and manifolds don't look too bad. You can always replace the bolts. I live in Ohio and my 1998 daily driver Firebird had more rust under the hood than that car does. I wouldn't worry about it.
If it was repainted just because of the sail panel bubbling, the bubbles will eventually return unless the sail panel was replaced along with the factory glue.

That's not a lot of rust at all for an Ohio car. To me even the underbelly shot is not bad

Fairly typical of a Great Lakes region car that has been driven in all weather conditions. The mileage is low, but it was clearly not spared of winter driving.

As mentioned above, if all they did was repaint the sail panel then the bubbles will come back. Panel replacement is the only fix.

I'd be more inclined on how the frame looks. Your frame is the biggest concern, everything else is minor...surface rust on manifold bolts and that can be replaced like stated above.

What I do suggest though is you take a day or two and dedicated to sealing up your frame and preventing any further rust from forming. I literally did this on my Jeep last summer - cost me $50 all in to do in my driveway and the results have been nothing short of impressive...atleast to me.

This is what I did on the Jeep...it's the exact same for any vehicle though

Frame Rust Repair and Prevention

Once you do that, you shouldn't have to worry about your frame again. After getting these results on the Jeep, I'll be doing the exact same thing to my LS1 this winter while it is down in storage

Being in Ontario, Canada, where we use salt on our road during the winter, my car has a bit of surface rust from when the previous owners left it outside and drove it without ever undercoating it. Mileage is about the same as yours. It's nothing bad and can be taken care of...just don't leave it alone. I'll be looking into the above as well.
