'02 WS6 Full Repaint Cost?
I recently dropped just one grand on a 2002 WS6 sitting in my friend's yard for the past 2 years under Utah sun, they just didn't want to deal with the car anymoree. Car runs mostly okay for 120k on the clock but the paint is atrocious and the weather stripping is beat up.
I've called around and have gotten quotes at no less than 6 THOUSAND up to 10 THOUSAND dollars, is this what I can expect?
Can someone give me an idea of what a reasonable full paint job would cost at a body shop?
Pics following are what she looks like now after new wheels/tires/brakes.

I figure if I'd do a wrap I might as well do a Maaco paintjob since they'd be about the same cost give or take. My understanding of wraps is they need to be replaced ever couple years as well.

I cant tell from the pics but it looks like the hood is the only things that needs a repaint. $6K does sound high for a paintjob using a standard color and not something crazy like a kandy or chameleon paint.
Can the rest of the car just be corrected with a buffer or wet sanding and you just get the hood painted?

I noticed that paint jobs have got up so high the past year or 2 wanted to have something small done and 600 bucks so called around and everywhere is higher then before around 2010 you could get the whole car done for 1500 -2500 as long as there wasn't any else that needed done

2k will get you a basic paint job, nothing spectacular.
There's nothing wrong with that at all.
But I prefer a factory paint job with little to no orange peel and a crystal clear no flaw clear coat.
I know I know, you get what you pay for with paint. Painting cars is pure labor, so $1,500-$2,000 doesn't get you the worlds greatest prep job to begin with, then you probably don't get any color sanding between coats. And you probably will only get one clear coat.
Plus it's not like you can do everything in one day, there's a lot of waiting going on.
My last 2 camaros had bad paint so I have a new respect for quality paint jobs.

If you aren't paying a MINIMUM of 4 grand there are major short cuts being taken. I've owned a body shop and had a million guys come in with zero idea of what it actually costs. I would not do a quick, shitty paint job.
Maybe just get the hood painted and have the rest buffed - or lightly sanded and buffed.

I had my SOM Camaro looked at here in Charlotte and for a full paint job I was quoted just under 4k from a reputable shop that has been in business for years. That didn't seem too high in my mind, but it just wasn't worth it to me.
Seeing as how you got the car dirt cheap, it wouldn't be the worst idea to put some money into paint, but 6k seems like a lot to spend on a higher mileage TA. If you can get away with just painting the hood and buffing the rest, go that route.

I'd charge a min of 5k to paint that. The hood needs stripped, the paint is delaminating. The rest of the car looks decent. Paint isn't cheap. Plus, if you want a quality, mirror, orange peel free finish, that's a lot of labor to sand and buff. Like mentioned above, if the job is less than 4k, you are getting a job where some corners were cut.

i own a shop as well. 5K minimum for that job. Lifetime warranty and a high end PPG clear. no short cuts. take the whole car apart

$5k minimum is right for a good paint job, anything less and they're cutting corners or using cheap materials, if you're going through the trouble of having the whole car painted then do it right the first time. As far as Macco, no.. Even if you get they're top of the line paint job, it still will only last a year before it starts fading or pealing. Don't do that to a ws6.

That's the best route imo. I can't see putting $5K+ into a paint job on a 120K mile car that sat. Too many WS6/SS's are still out there with decent paint jobs at the 75K-125K mile point. I'd rather buy a car with the factory paint job still in nice condition. At least there won't be any surprises when after 1-2 yrs you new paint job goes bad.
You just got the car. Have the hood done if it bothers you. Or buy a replacement hood with decent paint. Drive the car for a year and then see how you feel about it.
