Default Detroit Speed fender protectors

I'm wondering if
A. has anyone used these and how did they like them
B. has anyone built/made their own? Looks pretty straightforward
C. are there any competitors out there? $115 seems a little extreme for what it is

My flanges are mangled all to hell and the fenders sit too far out and have a sad looking door gap. I can straighten them but I'd like to keep them from getting damaged again in the future

Alright. Well I'm not gonna choke down 120 bucks for what it is.
So if I ever end up making a set, I'll post some drawings/pictures so someone else can copy.
Cheers fellas

Don’t the LT variation have a fender support that came from the factory on those cars?

I put them on my car. Nothing much to say about them other than they work

I will most likely get them.. my fenders need to be fixed in that area plus it acts as a good jacking point

I'm not sure I would lift on them. The protectors are insurance, meant to resist the occasional mistake. The metal above and behind them looks pretty thin.

I have one of the 98’s that was shipped with the plastic, honeycomb, “jacking pad” in that spot. I always lift at that point when raising the front, if not jacking at the k-member. No problem.

Yes they did. So did early 98's
But My fenders are already messed up in this area. So the LT version wouldn't really fix my issue

Just as a matter of clarification, those plastic, honeycomb pads to which I refer do not serve the same role as the Detroit Speed part. They protect the fender and pinch weld only if you use them as a lifting point as opposed to the fender or pinch weld. They do not in anyway support the fender or pinch weld. You can still mangle that pinch weld if you lift outboard of the pads.

As far as not using the OEM pads as a lifting point, I never realized there was any controversy or concern about using them. I thought that is their intended function. I never lift or support the front by those pads without having a flat, solid block of wood directly contacting them, though. I am not arguing. What would be the concern?
