What’s the best method to handle rust like this in the engine compartment or under the car?
Also does anyone sell the e-coat or is it really just the base coat? I would like to keep the factory look if possible, would sanding with a Matte clear work?
if using por15, which works well, you need to prime it with an etcher. Dont put por15 on bare metal. Wont last long
+1 yea follow instructions carefully, don't take the lid off the POR can, instead drill a hole in the side of the can near the lid and use a self tapping bolt in the hole, store the can so the paint is covering the inside, POR is humidity activated,, so the less air it sees the better.
Here's my rough plan to fix the rust in the engine bay, please let me know if this sounds correct or if I'm missing anything.
1. Unplug battery/PCM, move as many components/wire looms out of the way
2. Clean\degrease entire engine bay
3. Use Rust Kutter/similar to convert rust (since it's everywhere), letting it work overnight
4. Rinse with mist water the next day / let dry
5. Sand areas to be painted/ more Rust Kutter application if needed
6. Clean areas to be painted, spray self etching primer
7. Apply Por 15 Top Coat
The goal is to just remove the rust/prevent it from coming back, the bonus being making the engine bay presentable!
