Question How hard is it to vinyl wrap a WS6 with zero experience?

Hey folks,
Been searching a bit but not seeing what I was looking for. But for those of you that have done it. How hard is it to wrap a WS6 if you have zero experience doing it? I've put on phone screen covers...I guess that's something. I was thinking about something from VVIVID Vinyl probably which is 5 mil thick. I've seen lots of info about other cars but the WS6 has such a crazy front and rear that I imagine it's harder than most cars.

Thanks

Depends on how you want it to look. The body itself could probably be wrapped by someone without experience- if you're meticulous AND ok with imperfections visible up close. More intricate areas like the front and back bumper are only going to frustrate a beginner.

That pretty much sounds like exactly how I'm feeling it will be if I tried. The more I stare at it the more I think how much profanity would be needed.

I suggest just getting a pro to do it. Wraps really should only cost about 2k-3k? I just think it is better left to the pros

I think so as well, I've been having trouble finding someone to do it where I live. Most seem to advertise 4K+. Northern VA is very expensive which really sucks. Honestly 2K - 2.5K would be fine though.

I've done mine myself twice, with my only prior experience being the helper when a friend wrapped his mustang.

It's definitely doable, but don't expect it to look like a pro job. I think it came out good, but there are imperfections in the tighter spots like on the hood and bumper. It's a solid 10 footer, I think most of the blemishes wouldn't be noticed unless I pointed them out, but I know they're there.

Did you use the tape for the seams?

The material is a significant cost of the process these days, I have a front end clear wrap done on my Tesla and it was 1800 with rockers and mirrors and the guy did a amazing job you have to know its there to even find it. He charges 3500 to do a whole car, which includes paint correction and full clean as part of the process.

Why not do something like this? I'm thinking about it.

Bit of an old thread but yes I would agree on the Dip. You would also need the sprayer and somewhere indoors like a garage (avoid bugs and wind) and a face mask. Fonzie has tons of vids on youtube on correct spraying method also.

So I guess I'll follow up on this since other people might look into it as well. I'm not going to do a wrap right now just for a few reasons but I can give an idea of cost. Mainly I just can't find a color I love quite yet.
  • Temporarily there is a color shortage for the big names like 3M and Avery. I couldn't find a color I love as a result.
  • Cost is not the issue but it's higher for a WS6. In northern VA it's about $4500 and up for a professional shop. I asked around at 3 shops and that was about normal.
  • Maybe possibly could damage paint when removing.
  • I may still do it later but for now am waiting and definitely cannot do it myself.
Best of luck to anyone else who is shopping around. If you do Wrap your car I'd love to see the results!

I'd only dip an old beater. If they are outside dirt eventually sticks to it. I've dipped a rear spoiler and beater wheels and it works fine for that type stuff.

I'm interesting in wrapping my own stuff, I think I need to buy some scrap pieces from a buddy and practice on an old hood.

There's this channel on youtube called CK Wraps, he's got some good info. I think it was a Satin White from Avery that he considered to be the easiest for beginners. That might be a good one to try out. I forget the name of video but it was pretty much "easiest wrap for beginners" or something. Basically you can stretch the life out of it and it still looks decent.

You can use diparmor to make easier to clean plus if you wait until after it cures, it can be ceramic coated.

$4500 cost for a vinyl wrap is totally unfair if they are charging that much in Northern VA. If a DIY it doesn't cost more than $1200

I had my ss wrapped a couple weeks ago, $2800 in labor, I supplied the vinyl ($700). It's considered a large car if that matters.

I should mention, I tried wrapping the hood to get a feel. For a beginner, its a 2 person job. I had it somewhat going my way, then it started creasing hard as i moved outward from the center. I ended up accepting defeat and had it done.
