Default How to protect this bare metal?

When I changed my clutch this spring, I cut an access flap in the trans tunnel for one of the bell housing bolts. Now that winter is approaching, I want to peel the carpet back and apply something around the edges of the flap where there's bare metal to protect against rust. Is there anything I can use that comes in the size of a nail polish container with a brush just as small? The size of the container isn't super important but I will be applying it with a nail polish brush. I've tried searching for things like "metal sealant", "small auto touch up paint", and other search terms but I'm not having any luck.

Me, I would just get/use a tube of RTV sealant, color doesn't matter. Use my finger to spread/dab on the underneath edge, close flap and flood top with RTV. anything you use will have a lingering odor.

POR-15 comes in small cans, seals anything and lasts forever as long as you keep UV rays off of it, it's not cheap but the stuff is unbeatable for stopping and sealing rust.

I was going to recommend POR15 in my post but would be difficult to apply to the underneath edges and since POR15 is 'watery consistency' it would not fill gaps. And if you get any on you or your clothing and sets/dries, not removeable. Up until it sets/dries, acetone/lacquer thinner will remove it. I've been using POR15 for 15 years now.

I thought about RTV initially but didn't want to stick myself with a cleanup job for the next clutch change. I remembered today I have a Sharpie oil-based paint pen. Would that create a good enough barrier/ sealant?

My vote would be for some chassis saver. Scuff the area with some sandpaper, and paint it on with a small brush. It's similar to POR-15, but isn't quite as watery. Doesn't require any prep beyond scuffing, and the higher the humidity, the faster it cures. However, just like POR-15, whatever you get it on, it isn't coming off, so masking/barriers of some sort are required.

Should work. I'd bend it back and seal it with either HVAC tape or Flex Seal Tape.

There is a product called Fiber Fix that you can find at Wal Mart in the auto section. You soak it in water and wrap it around an item. It might adhere to bare metal. Not exactly sure.

Any paint will be fine, spend $15 on a tube of seam sealer.

You can use POR with fiberglass cloth to fill holes in a body, sorta like using bondo, but you "glue" the fabric down with the POR then give it a couple more coats.
If you use nice fine weave fiberglass cloth it comes out nice and smooth and thin so it doesnt bulge up places you dont want to have show..
