Glad to hear how happy you are with the front bumper! At least that adds something positive to the whole experience.

Funny thing is, we always seem to have a glut of convertible 4th gens for sale here in the Great Lakes region. They always seem to have a hard time selling and usually have to get pretty cheap (relative to the coupes) to move. It's understandable, because this is a horrible climate for a convertible - I just wonder how so many ended up in an area that has such harsh weather in the first place? And it's not just the same cars getting listed over and over, it always seems like new ones pop up every year. Here's a quick search result (keep in mind, some of these cars listed below are junk, some are V6 cars, and most are not even remotely comparable to one as nice as yours, but it's just an example of how many always seem to be available here...finding one here is easy, but finding a truly nice one would be the hard part):

^^^ Well this is the perfect time of year to be selling 'verts. That Detroit Z28 is indeed a nice one!! Super low miles and a fine price if anyone is looking. Yeah, it's hard to believe it's 30 years old but I never had issues with the LT1 engines and would not hesitate to own this one. Many years of life left with regular maintenance the only thing needed.
The number of Camaros seems to exceed the Firebirds which might have been an underlying part of his interest as well.

Thanks! If anyone needs the shop info they can feel free to contact me here with a message. This is a rather rural area in western NC. Here are two cars that the shop has restored in the past. I see them all the time at the local car shows. The Camaro is owned by the local Hagerty insurance rep.

I built a 67 RS/SS about 12 years ago. It was ready for paint and one of my old Foxbodies came up for sale. Like a sucker I sold it and bought the Fox back. I agree with you on FB being utter chaos. Its my only option for parts now days tho.

RPM WS6 here is the front in a different photo. Also from a show back in 2021 when he had different wheels and tires. I personally like the white lettered rubber myself. ( I keep all my car show photos ).

Thank you for not retromodding that car. I love the dog dish wheels and the period correct tires. It is a super clean split bumper Z!

Agreed on both counts! It's so nice to see one of these restored to that condition with an original-type drivetrain still in place. There are plenty of fun, late model cars to go fast with modern tech if that's your thing, but for these dinosaurs it takes something away from the experience, at least to me, when they are overly modernized and any "vintageness" only goes skin deep.

And yeah, I love the body-colored wheels with poverty caps! I would have done that with my Nova if it was any other color but silver (silver wheels are so common in general that it's just not the same type of effect as Hugger Orange, etc.)

Im with you. I built a 67 Camaro RS/SS and a 70 Elky. I ran period correct engines and carbs. I even got my 67's power drums to stop and not go all over the place lol. My dad has a 69 Camaro that is just sitting in his garage. He has had some heart attacks and after his bypass surgery in 09 he hasn't done much with finishing it. All of the cancer is gone on the car, but it needs to be reassembled and wired.

Drums!! Haha. About 10 years ago I completely rebuilt the entire braking system on my '71 Nova. I decided to keep the front drums because that's how it came and because someone before me had already done a nice job of replacing the front hard lines (I would have had to redo those to add a prop. valve for discs, etc.) So against the advice of others, I rebuilt the (power) drum system. Nobody made a front hardware "kit" for this application (SS396.com actually has this now), because everyone just converts to front disc anyway, so I had to buy each piece of hardware individually. And nobody has an arcing machine these days, so I had to hand-sand the shoes until the high spots were mostly gone and braking was generally even from side to side. This took forever to get right! It works very well now but it's not 100% perfect, only because the shoes can get a bit "grippy" on one side or the other when hot (after a lot of braking), so there is sometimes a tiny bit of tug when braking under those conditions. But after some research, it seems that the problem lies with the fact that only one manufacturer is still making these shoes, and the friction material quality isn't completely consistent as it's a very low volume item.

If I ever did this again, I'd probably convert to disc (especially since it was originally optional on this car), but at least I can say that I made the drums work!

No matter what though, I'm definitely keeping my period-correct engine/trans, Holley carb, etc. That's part of the fun to me. My '74 Cutlass is the same way; still has the original Olds 350, and just last fall I installed a fresh, date-correct Q-jet to solve the last of its fueling issues. Car runs great now - not fast, but it's my favorite cruiser.

4 wheel drums are a nightmare to get right. In 67 that was a pretty rare option on GM cars from what I have been told. . It had so many rare options for a 350 RS/SS car early Van Nuys car. It had to have been a special order. I didn't get lucky with the motor and transmission. It was long gone, but the 12 bolt was still there. The only cancer I had to replace was just some patch panels on the lower quarters. The dash, rear package tray, and pans were all in perfect shape. The story I got was in was repainted in the 80s typical and sat in a garage for most of its life. Even with the vinyl top gone, very minimal surface rust. It was a Granada Gold car with Gold custom deluxe interior car with a black vinyl top.

How did I miss this??? Glad to see the repairs on your T/A meet your expectations.

Whenever I see this car, it reminds me of Live and Let Die, this is the car that grew wings and flew away. Outdone only by the Hornet that did that spiral jump across the creek. Great product placement for AMC.

^^^ Thanks!! Yeah, that movie was full of AMC cars. You can't help but notice them all. The dying days of American Motors. They lost a ton of $$$ with this new style Matador. I only loved it because of Bobby Allison. He won both Darlington races in 1975 with his Coca Cola Matador
