I spoke with a GM rep during my better business arbitration hearing and believe me, they could give a **** less about people with this problem.

 

I just went to the junkyard and tried the cutting thing on a few cars using braided stainless steel fishing wire which is a little bit abrasive so i figured it'd work fine. WRONG after 30 min i still wasnt even 2 inches into the one side of the panel does it really take 4+ hrs to get one of these off or am i missing something?

 

I went with a friend once and took along a cordless sawzall and a cutoff wheel. We slipped the blade in between the quarter panel and the sail panel and just cut it off the old car. We then cut the center roof bar out and took the entire thing home with us. We just laid it in the grass and slowly (and carefully) trimmed off the metal with the cutoff wheel until we could get a razor blade in and cut through the glue. Just be careful at the yard while cutting the roof from the body because if you don't hold the sawzall firmly or let it snag on something, you could cause it to bounce and smash up the sail panel you're trying to salvage. Also, we did this on a T-Top car. I have yet to try this with a hardtop, but I can imagine it's much more difficult.

 

I am seriously gonna start looking for a POS V6 Early 4th gen, buy it just for the sail lol

 

How difficult would be to replicate it in fiberglass?

 

Can anyone advise what urethan adhesive to use. Looking at the Service Bulletin I can't make out the #. Is it 3M 08890, or 08690

 

My hard copy of the TSB states the following:

- U400 HV Essex (Dow)
- 3M Urethane 08690

Everyone says its discontinued and that you cant get it from gmparts direct but I found it on their site and it doesnt say anything about back ordered or discontinued, but its expensive as ****.

 

You could try to order it and see what happens, but if the other dealers can't get it then GMPD won't be able to either. They'll probably just cancel your order.

 

mine isn't that bad and you can't tell there's bubbles unless your right up on it but as time goes by does it get worst? I have like 2 or 3 small bubbles and there a lil bigger then the top of a pin.

Well it's not really a Recall, it's a Technical Service Bulletin. No one will honor this TSB anymore.

A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is issued when a known problem or condition exists in a certain vehicle(s) and contains a repair for that problem. A TSB can also be issued to notify dealerships of diagnostic procedure changes, modified or improved parts or service manual revisions and updates.

TSBs are "Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty". This means if the vehicle is within it's warranty period, repair as outlined by the TSB is paid for by the manufacturer. If the vehicle is out of warranty, the customer is responsible for the repairs.

Yes, it does. It started off small on my '02 Z28, and it eventually overtook the entire panel. Each day that it was in the sun, it got worse and worse.
