Default Any paint gun recomendations?

The paint job dosent have to be perfect, so im not looking to spend a whole lot since I only plan to paint the engine bay since the motor is out of the car. FWIW Ill be using it with a 30 gallon compressor. Are there any brands I should stay away from, and features that are a must. Any help would be appreciated. Looking to spend around 100 bucks.

you can rent my gun from me, ill have to be there to watch though
I have an Iwata LPH-400, it is an HVLP gun and has very minimal air consumption.
Hell i can even spray it for you, as long as all the prep work is done and all i have to do is spray it.

You can pickup a hvlp gun for around 50-75$. Any automotive body supply place can help you. For what your doing I would buy a little touch up gun should serve the job just wright, and fit in tighter spots better, also cheaper.

That is true, because I know there will be a lot of tight spots to get into while im under there.

I really wouldnt mind having somehting like that, but It may just be a bit much for as many times as im gona use it. If I was to try and paint a body panel tho I could deff talk myself into picking something like that up.

Found a decent selection of guns from eastwood, and will buy from them since they are a sponsor. They have guns from both Binks and Devilbliss.

$100? For a SATA, Iwata, or DeVilbiss? Come on guys. Even I know better. Used SATAs are $350 or so.

Consider an Astro - it's a SATA knock-off, but it's a decent gun. I've got a QUL109, it's a RP style gun (29 psi). The 109 has a 1.9mm tip, which is good for primer. They make 'em with smaller tips, you'd want a 1.3 or so for base/clear.

Check this one out:

http://www.spraygunworld.com/product...%20QUL103A.htm

My only complaint about my Astro is that you have to tighten the bejeezus out of the tip. The little piece of metal it came with didn't do the job. I bought a cheap 3/4" wrench and ground it down to fit. Works great now (it sputtered with the tip not tight enough).

Who said anything about a sata or iwata for 100$. If he's going to make a living out of it then buy somthing top notch, if its a 1 or 2 time thing buy somthing to just get the job done.

I think he was saying that the guy wants to spend a $100 and we are all, myself included, throwing out guns that are $300 plus. Myself I buy top of the line too but not everyone wants to do that especially for a one time project.

Read the last sentence of Donamian's post.

A pro would most certainly want a SATA or Iwata or high end DeVilbiss. But you can get in to cubic dollars with those (SATA digitals ). I still say an Astro.

Lot of guys on some of the paint sites swear by Astros, so they must be pretty good. My next will be an Iwata.

Well if the guy gets a cheap gun then water will prob start coming out along with the paint. Also the cheaper guns sometimes will like spit out paint and not be a continuous fan of paint. So maybe you can find somebody to let you borrow their good gun!!!

If you're just wanting to do the engine bay , then the first touchup gun on your list should be fine. It uses very little air and is small so it will be easier to work in the engine bay. If it were me, of those 3 choices you have listed, I would go ahead and get the set. That way you would have a larger gun also for full panels.
