intake manifold

i want to paint my intake manifold when i get it, and i was wondering if there are any special steps i need to take to paint it?

When I painted my dash panels I use a rattle can from walmart that says it bonds to plastic. Of course I did the ususal prep work of sanding/washing. I have also used some stuff call bullydog; its an adhesion promoter and have had great luck with both. It isn't an up close and personal picture but I used the bullydog under the metalcast paint from autozone.

what kind of intake? just like posted above, the prep work is where you will make your money, i just did my FAST 90 and it didnt come out to bad.. alot of sanding, primering,paint and clear coat.. go in stages and take your time

If you use a good quality base/clear you dont have to do all the sanding/priming ect. The high build of the clear smooths the surface and makes it look as though it has been sanded slick when finished. I painted a couple with the Du pont Chroma system and used no primer or adhesion promoters, only a good cleaning, a light scuff of a scotch brite pad and paint/clear. allmost a year later they both still look like they were just painted yesterday with no chipping or peeling.

Any rattle can no matter if its made for plastic or not is worth a damn in my oppinion.

a spray gun will get you best results, but I'm sure you know that. With that said, you MUST prep. it correctly. I have seen people rattle can theirs with great prep work and they came out nice.

I just shot a ls2 intake and my Ls6 has been done for 2 years. That is a great write up. I use DuPont stuff. it cost alot but you can't beet the quality.. The intakes can look like glass.
