Looking for some other DIYers who have taken on painting their FAST manifolds. I have my own a/c, a paint gun, and am half dangerous. I plan to do some shaving to the exterior of my manifold, then want to paint it a silver and top it off with some clearcoat. Though it's not a body panel, I still want it to turn out nice.

Not much of a body man-painter, so looking for some tips, supplies and details on how to do this right.

Yeah, I did and it was pretty handy.

It seems you missed the part about the painting. Not sure if your example was with a spray can, or with pre-mixed paint and a spray gun.

But a helpful write-up, and a nice forum for the topic.

I followed the steps in Sticky's advice post. Very helpful. I used Duplicolor rattle cans for the entire project and it turned out very nice, with a hell of a lot of sanding I painted my FAST 90mm high gloss black and clear coat. Couldn't have that ugly gray thing in the middle of my triple black car.

I believe steps 10, 11, and 12 were directly related to the painting steps. It applies for rattle or 2 part paints.

I painted mine last summer.Iwent with base ,clear and used seabring silver ,wasnt to flashy,turned out really nice was pretty close to my 35th anv SS strips. Ithen lightly scuffed the FAST etc lettering with 1000 or some 1500 grit then with a fine fine brush painted it with a bright red,one of those little model bottels when i did the lettering i just did the top edges ,then did the insides it looked bad ***. put ill tell ya now ,hope you got patients!Ibet i spent agood hour and ahalf on the lettering good luck.

I plan to take the FAST lettering all the way off. Anyone try that? I plan to use a dremmel or somethinging to knock it down, then use the low grit sandpaper and start working up.

Any advice or suggestions hi build primer vs. progessively higher sandpaper? I am thinking of going that route.

I have done a few stock intakes and I use 80 grit on a da first then a little finer next. prime well and block them then BBCC.
