Default Clear coat....help!!

Well i took off my side moldings today and I noticed that a nice size portion of my clear coat is off. Is there any "quick fix" that i can do or do i have to go get it re-done professioanlly? Any advise will be greatly appreciated!!

Did the clear coat peel off when you took off the moldings? If so then its going to be kind of tuff, because you will have to sand down the edge of the clear so it can be smooth like the rest of the paint, but by doing that you will more that likely sand on your base coat thus changing the color especially if it is a metallic. So what you will have to do is sand everything smooth with like some 800grt just along the edges where the clear peeled off and then sand with some 1000 grt aroung a ten inch area around the spot where the clear peeled off and you will have to rebase just that spot then clear it and blend the clears. Its pretty difficult if you have never painted before. i would take it to a shop if you have no expirience in painting with automotive paints. sorry if this was so long but i hope it helps.

+1 for getting it fixed right. It was probably caused from a buther shop either clearing over the moldings or masking around them. If the shop that fixes it has to blend the color into an adjacent panel make sure they remove the trim before they do any paintwork.

well a pic would be nice to see, but you can wetsand the area and about 4-6 inches into the rest of the clearcoat then you can "blend" the clearcoat into the rest of the car, do it thicker where it is missing clearcoat and lighter as you move into the clearcoat on the car. After you let it harden you wetsand the whole area with 1500, then 2000 grit, cut it and polish it and you probably wont be able to tell. Thats if you want to do it yourself.

its weird cause i didnt use anything that could remove the clear coat. i used fishing line to get the molding off then i plealed the adhesive off by hand...idk i cant get pictures of it...camera wont pick it up. it the exact shape and size as the back strip by the back tire.
