In order to get a good adhesion of the primer, you could use 320 automotive sandpaper, and sand the whole car and prime it. Make sure it is auto sandpaper, not wood sandpaper. Also, scuff in every crack and crevice or you will have your primer flaking off in no time.

Good luck, but I am still not sure any of us fully understand why you want to do this. I would rather have shiny paint than primer, but different strokes...

I understand, but why not just hold off until you have the funds and do the whole thing once, instead of sanding and priming it now? You do realize the primer job will get chips, ect... and will have to be sanded down again, before you put a nice paint job on the car, in the end?

Sorry, but it does not make much sense to me, to do it twice. You can conserve money, and alot of time, just holding off and dealing with what is currently on the car, while you save up for a nice paint job. This is the smarter route, if you ask me.
