Tangerine Candy

It would look awesome on a '69 Camaro

[QUOTE=Pro-Mo]Tangerine Candy

So you cleared with a different clear other than house of Kolor on Tangerine Kandy? You might already know this but ill throw it out anyway. With the house of Kolor candy's its a five coat minimum and it is recomended to be used with Hok clear because of the uv protection. I have learned from my mistake of saying oh that looks good with two coats and then clear the car and six months later its faded on the most exposed areas to the sun. So now when i shoot candy's i use their clear because it helps it against the sun. Like i said you might already know this. I hope you do. That car looks sick and would not want that happening to it.

Appreciate the info, but I used Matrix Tangerine Candy. After the candy was down I used PPG 895 (clear base) as a intermediate coat then put down the clear.
Its got two "dry" coats and three "wet" coats. With candy (at least Matrix) the more coats you use the darker it gets. I stopped my initial wet coats at three when I obtained the color depth I wanted.

As far as fade goes, reds, oranges, yellows always fade faster, especially here in florida. I just do my best to keep it waxed and out of the sun.

Thanks for the compliments.

To be honest , there is no favorite in our shop. we have had great success with Dupont, PPG, and HoK, depending on what base was used. Normally with a candy or any other HoK custom job, we use a HoK clear with it.

for everyday collision, PPG base and trans star . At $125 for a setup , it does just fine and looks great. If we started using PPG at $240 a setup , we'd be losing money for no reason

Yup same here in Houston, i always tell the customers that and they get scared, but its the truth. Never used Matrix candys i didnt know they could use the same name as house of kolor.

Maybe, they are most known for blatanly saying they have copied PPG and DuPonts recipes for basecoats. They openy advertise it.
Most of the rep here for Matrix are ex PPG employees. You cant say no to their prices though, especially in the colision repair business. I got my candy for a price I couldnt rufuse, otherwise i probobly would have used HoK. PPG has a nice orange but I wanted control of the depth of color.

Well it defenitely looks good. and you sprayed panel by panel right i think thats what i read on another thread. Thats hard to do as is. yeah with house of kolor you can control it somewhat but they have recomendations that help the life of it and that is go for all five coats.

I have been using the ChromaPremier line from Dupont for about a month now and I really like it. It looks good and blends well with factory paint, even buffs out good, but I don't know if I would go as far to say that it is show car quality.

Ive sprayed and used just about everything, ive been painting porsches, ferraris, real cobras, and pebble beach winners for years now. By far the best ones are Glasurit, sikkens, and spies. Ppg= **** poor gloss, the same goes for dupont, they are junk. The 3 i mentioned are very flexible, very hard, and buff out to a clear, beautiful shine. The cheaper clears always look milky to me. Ppg and dupont also shrink like a bastard, dont even get me started on their sealers, The current spies paint system im using, the primer and sealers LOCK UP, its amazing how fast they lock up, they work awesome.

Also i dont know who said with better clears you wont need a cut and buff, but it has nothing to do with the clears, its all about the painter. I can lay down any clear with a good smooth finish and minimal dirt, but to get the right shine and reflection, any good paint job will need to be cut and buffed, i think in the 1000s of cars ive painted, only 2-3 have ever come out with ZERO dirt, it just never happens.

Pro-mo, nice looking car as well, im thnking of doing my 96 ws6 in sunset orange, just nto sure if i want a factory clolor yet.

Thank you, I really like SOM but what I seen of it at night wasnt fitting my vision of the car (read: it still a killer color).
What ! no dirt? Haha if the general public only knew how hard it really is.
Dirt is, and always will be, falling out of nowhere on your nice slick coat of clear. At least they are easier to rid than say...bugs. Dont even want to go there.

haha those dam bugs, i sware they wait for you to lay that last layer of clear. Exactly when you get a paint job with no dirt, your just lucky, nothing more or less. It still kills me when people ask " who painted it" i wish they would understand paint is the easiest thing

Heres a few links of some cars i painted, This car was actually die cast, and i bought one on ebay lol
