Depends on what for and why.

The body shop near me that's know for awesome work uses them. I've also seen some horror stories.

I've seen some of the local maacos work it's top notch.

I had a car (not an f-body....) painted at maaco once....

The quality of the paint itself was wonderful (for a white car....), it was cheap, and it was fast...

The only problem I have with maaco is they DO NOT remove ANY trim before they paint but rather just quickly mask it off. They don't get overspray on anything but it does leave a hard line at the edge of the molding/wheather stripping/etc. which I personally didn't like. Other people didn't notice, I did.

With this in mind, IF I were to have a car painted by them again, I would take the time to remove all the trim BEFORE I took them the car that. I feel it is just the "cost" of getting something "cheap".

dude dont bring it to maaco... or at least find out what paint line they use... becuase i can tell you for 175.00 its probably terribly low grade... and it being the roof rain and sun are constantly beating on it... how long do you think it will take to tarnish? id say no go but its your car and money... painting roof probably get you $350-$450 in a good shop so i mean your saving money but what compromise????

forgot to mention:

the car I did have painted by them was a total repaint (whole car), cost less than $700, and the paint was still brand new 5 years later when I junked the car out....

with that said....when MY Camaro gets repainted, it's not going to maaco as I want it to be show quality (vs. daily driver quality)...

HAH!!!! hell no iv never tried it becuase i have seen 3 different peoples cars from three diff areas geographically that had maaco full paints and they painted over door handles, locks, left disgusting paintlines on lights and marker lights, not to mention after 6 months it usally starts chipping (but you said your sanding it so you might be ok in that area becuase there prep work sux.... and o yea to make a job that cheap they are probably using single stage and its probably second rate materials... im talking worse that sherwin willaims and there paint is horrible... like i said call up and find out if they are doing a basecoat clearcoat or single stage paint and find out what paint brand it is....

Painting a entire car for $500 IS reasonable if it doesn't include prep work. If you do your own prep and they only have to degrease and mask the car I'd let them paint it.... you just cannot expect them to do bodywork and 10 hrs of prep for that price. Most of those Maaco guys can paint, it's just not reasonable to think that they spend 10+ hrs of prep work on your car if you only pay $500

$175 for the roof is a good price if you sanded and prepped it...

If you go to maaco, and get the cheapest paint job on the list and do no prep work yourself... it will most likely look like ****. You get what you pay for.

My buddy just took his jetta there, he stripped everything off the car (door handles, weatherstripping, moldings etc) and sanded it down himself.

He got maaco to do the base/clear paint job and it was $1000 (*canadian*)
They spent a few hours prepping it, masked it and painted it.

It was in the shop for 4 days and it came out awesome!

Maaco is a reputable company, and they have to uphold to certain standards within the industry, their quality of materials is good, and they all know how to paint a car. But remember if you want it done on the cheap.... it will come out looking that way.

EDIT:
here is a pic... not a good quality pic but you get the idea

Quick Reply: would you ever go to maaco?
