Why did chevy paint their mirrors black for Camaros?

If you have a certain RPO code (forget which one), you have body-colored sail pannel and mirrors. It was an option on all 98+ F-Bodies. I don't know about LT1 years, but I would bet it's the same.
The Sport Appearance Package (Y3F) was ground effects. Has nothing to do with sail pannel and mirror color.
I would rather have black than body colored, and am glad I do.

I have the RPO code for "color matched mirrors" however the sail panel is still black (which I'm getting painted to match also). I hate black mirrors on anything other than a black car, although it looks ok on pewter too.
