Matte black paint job
Is a matte black paint job different than primer? Can you detail with polish and wax? I know that primer would suck the waxes and polymers in, and you would be left with a black and white swirl finish. Also, has anyone ever seen an f-body with a matte black finish? -Eddie

Yes it is different. It is an additive you add to the clear to make it flat looking, but no you cannot wax or buff it because it will get shiny. I use sikkens and lesonal and it is a flattening agent you use with the clear depending how much you put determines how much shine you get. You also have to get it exactly how you want it because if you get a bug or a run you cant wet sand and buff it out becasue it will get shiny. I have heard of using a black sealer but i would not leave it primered because primer is very porous and it will absorb water and other stuff.

Mine looks like **** because it was done with a rattle can; the car was faded really bad when I got it. Haven't decided what color I am painting it yet although I might go with matte black

A lot of the guys over at hotrodders.com like John Deere's Blitz Black. Cheap paint that gives a satin finish. If you don't mind painting your car with tractor paint, that's one way you could go.

The best way to go matte black is to wrap it with 3M vinyl. You have to get the version made for wrapping cars though. It is much cheaper than paint and looks amazing! I'm new here. I'll have to post pics of mine. I work for a graphics company and it's literally getting wrapped in matte black now.
