Default Single stage better?

Ok so i want to paint my car an arctic white... took it to this guy the other day and ya... OMFG he wanted liek 8600 bucks to paint it... he wanted to do a single stage white and on top of the liek 8600 another 1800 bucks to wet sand and polish it... and he said that the single stage will llook just as good as paint without a clear... let alone its better in his words... now im not ragging on this sho cause ive seen there work ... and its ridiculously nice... but more for show cars and crap.. not a daily driver.. thats why 8600 is out of my price range.. but any recomendations on a single stage paint over a paint and clear? he said it might yellow with the clear and may change the color a little... but.. clear is better isnt it? or am i just not understanding... HELP! im going for another estimate sat... soo i need to know whether to go single stage or with a clear

base clear is deff more durable than a single stage... single stage is just easier to paint and cheaper... and yes clear can yellow whites but thats onlycheaper clears... any decent clear wont change it enough to tell... clear coat is better especially if this is your baby... i wouldnt use single stage... unless u were doin a flat color... hope this helps ya.... did that price include engine bay... removing engine to paint?? all jams? also sounds to me like he was just high ballen the job becuase he didnt want to do it... because otherwise he would have just included the wetsand an polish in the price... doing insurance work at a shop they dont even pay for the wet sand and buff because they see it as the painter should paint it right... but as any painter will tell you there is infinate number of things that can go wrong with a single paint job...

my shop only charges 700 for a single stage paint job, 50 for each jam, 250 for clear and if u wanted it cutand buffed another 3-400... so total in ur case 1350 and that would be a one hell of a nice looking car when we are done...

for solids id use single stage paint personaly, because it really doesnt looking any different than a bc/cc job. Which would easily be twice that at my shop, or 4x that at most other shops.

I could see 8600 if he were removing all of the body panels to do a color change the right way. It's a lot of work, and a lot of space (space is money in a body shop). 1800 for cut/buff is high, because you could buy about $600 worth of very good equipment and supplies and do it yourself in a weekend.

Single stage is indeed the cheap way of doing it. Paint is less expensive, less time spent on spraying, and it is simpler for the cut-n-buff (don't have to worry about burning through the clear ). I'd paint my wife's minivan or my truck with single stage, but my Camaros get base/clear...

Singe stage white is about the cheapest possible paint you can get your hands on. 8000+ is a ******* joke. Keep shopping.

im telling you... its not going to look yellow.... artic white camaros come factory with with clear they dont look yellow... find out what paint line he uses and what he would be clearing with.... we do all our white in our shop base clear and never once has a car come out yellow to the rest of the car unless he was the wrong variaton and unblened.... but then thats in the basecoat not the clear..... sounds like this guy is a real winner i wouldnt leave my car with him.... no way no how.... too expensive and sounds like hes trying to talk down to you becuase ur not experienced in painting... id shop some other shops see what they would do it for

Ya i heard that amount and my jaw hit the floor.... i seen there work top notch... but for a daily drive im not spending 8 grand... its a custom paint shop soo... w.e im taking to the guy who sprayed my hood n nose last.... my buddy had his 85 camaro sprayed (jams and all cept under hood) for i think liek 4000... but he needed body work and stuff... i believe the one shop used dupont i dont know what the other guy uses. . . what paint do you use. . . i thought the arctic whites come factory with clear.. n if i did stripes with it ide definitely want the covered in clear so there burried under it so its all straight n smooth. . . . but theres no way to do that without clear sooo... i think i definitely want clear. . . but no yellowing. . haha im gonna have to talk to the other uy and see what he says...
