I'm the original owner of my 98, and it DOES have the problem. the bubbles are all in line right where the adhesive was applied. chevy probably claims the 98's are to old for them to be responsible. I think thats BS. Especially for people who are original owners, chevy should stand behind their product and fix it when they know the cause is bad manufacturing.

Bubbles started forming on my 02, so I took it to Chevy. Even though I'm the third owner, GM is still paying for half of the cost. I have to pay 700 out of pocket for the entire job, which isn't bad considering the roof itself costs 730 bucks. Oh and if you're wondering, YES, I am getting a new roof and sail panels put on the car because it's cheaper to do that than pay for the labor of them cleaning the garbage off the old roof.

They're gettin over on you. I looked into hav'n this done out of pocket. Local Chevy dealer quoted me $750 to have this fixed, another body shop quoted me $900.

They cant salvage the old roof. They bend the **** out of it when taking it off. I had this done twice. Once on my camaro and the t/a.

Welcome to the club. You are now an official member of the GM does not give a **** about me fraternity. First of all, take it to a dealer to see what they say. When they give you the run around, call GM customer service and start a case. You are going to want to talk to one of the higher ups than who you will probably start with. When they give you the run around, contact better business, consumeraffairs.com, department of consumer affairs, and the center for autosafety. GM will then call you back and offer a solution or give you the run around again. Thats when you bring them to small claims.

I think I saw somewhere that your car is a 98? How many miles? Since it is probably out of warranty you would have to argue to the judge that the discovery rule should apply in your case because you had no way of knowing there was a defect with your car because GM never notified you of a problem. This is a latent paint defect that was a problem from the factory and you had no way of knowing there was a problem until the paint started bursting on your car.

Check out this article for more information:

Like said earlier, Im surprised that a shop claiming to specialize in Camaros would waste their time and your money repainting one of those roofs.

What is the build date of the 98 cars that posted in here. My 1998 WS6 (build february 1998) does not have these issues with 10 years of sitting outside in Florida. (worse case scenario) But the paint is red, not black, as many are.

Typically no and it's not a recall.

Take it back to the dealership............They want to keep customers happy. If you don't get any satisfaction from the service dept, ask to speak to the dealer. Not the GM, the DEALER. They know about the problem and will work with you. That is how they keep repeat customers. Good luck

Some dealerships know of the problem, and know the proper avenues to charge it up @ GM, and others don't want to be bothered with it. I know of one in Orlando and one in Melbourne that will fix it if anyone is in the area.
