body shop painters How many painters have helpers that work for a body shop. I am having problems with my boss forcing me to hire a helper and pay him salery per week guaranteed even if i dont make the hours myself.
I was working for a shop as painters helper and also prep. Were i worked the painter did need help so i guess i was helpful. I was getting paid by the owner and the painter. The painter just gave me what ever but i wouldnt ask for much since i knew him. Finally i guess the owner didnt want to pay me anymore and tried making the painter pay me salary also. So i quit. A week later he realized that he messed up and tried hiring other people but no luck for him he was a cheap ***!!!! lol
myself and the other painter at my shop have a helper thats paid hourly by the owner. we dont pay him out of our pocket. iif your the one that has to pay him make sure he can deliver a good product in a good amount of time.
It depends how busy you are @ the shop. If the helper is good, and there's a nice supply of work, it's worth it to pay the helper well, because you'll get at least twice the work done. If the shop is slow what the hell do you need a helper for?

I had a helper that I payed hourly. My boss decided to hire a guy I have fired twice already and pay him $650 a week salery and he is taking his time on everything. My hours are buy the job so he doesnt care how long it takes him to do something his money is there no matter what. I also had to let my hourly helper go.

Yikes, me personally wouldnt want someone else prepping my work.
Now someone doing all the other crap would be great, But I damn sure wouldnt be paying him. Unless that is a once in a lifetime job Id be looking elswhere

whats it cost to paint a entire car? I want to paint it Sunset Orange Metallic. Its maroon metallic at the moment. I want it done right, door jams, hatch jams, and under teh hood. I don't want any sign of maroon. Oh its a 01 z28 t-top car.
i talked tot he other painter at my work today since hes been doing this for like 20 years and he says that hes done that only in commission shops but the helper only made the prep time and buff time and he made everything else and didnt pay out of his own pocket. depends on the shop you take your car to. it could be anywhere from around 5000 to 8000 what your looking to do.

I am not a painter but a collision tech. I have a helper and he gets paid a percentage of the hours we run. Basically take our hours multiply by our flat rate and he gets 36%. Works good, the more work we get done as a team and both of our paychecks go up. If it is slow, we both suffer the lack of pay.

that vette was clean. you got any close ups? And what kind of $ we talking about? Just around about figure to paint my z? it will most likely be just a shell, well maybe some interior parts that I don't feel like taking out, like the dash.
All my techs and painters get paid on flat rate with no guarantee, except the helper which is paid hourly. We dont have any shortage of work so everyone gets plenty of hours. I have never heard of the painter having to pay the helper, unless the helper gets a percentage of what paint labor hours are available that they had a hand in prepping.
