kinda pissed off right now, took the car to cincy speed ~2 weeks ago, i was told it would have been done that saturday, (dropped it off saturday, should be done following saturday) i call them up to get a total friday evening, and im told it wont be done till tuesday, which means i cant have my car untill the saturday after that because im at school and only come home on the weekends.

so, this was my plan. i got a great deal on a moser 9 inch and some other ****, but the deal was, the guy wanted my 10 bolt to go back in a car he was selling, and he needed it the saturday my car was supposed to be done. so what did we end up doing......

thats right, in the ******* parking lot.......

Convo Pro's with Hoosier Quick Time Pro's look damn good tho....

so anyways, the car stays there, i get a call from the tuner on tuesday.....here is where im pissed

tuner: well, its running great, and A/F is good, fuel pressure is good, no knock retard, etc..., but its just not making any power. it hits 5600 RPM and falls on its face. A/F and everything is good to 7k just not making power. it made 344RWHP at 5600 RPM. should be around 450RWHP for the heads and cam i have.

me: what the hell is wrong with it?

tuner: blah blah blah.......

ok so me and him talk about it and narrow it down to either vavle float due to pushrods being too long, or valve springs weak. im leaning toward springs being too weak because the springs were on a vette that was road raced at high RPM. grant it they only have 5k miles on them, my guess is they are 5k worth of 7k RPM's. so im going to change the springs, and check the pushrods for length again, and if thats not the problem, im going to pop the cover off and make sure the cam is not off a tooth, and if thats not the problem either, im pulling the motor and starting over. no joke..... wish me luck

Is this guy a respectable tuner? There has to be an LSX based shop around there somewhere. Also once you get those springs in there I think the car should wake up prob. Although even at 5600rpm the car should've been making I say around 400rwhp on a dynojet. So if the springs dont fix this, then I say dont tear it down and start over. You just need to find someone who knows what they're doing with HPtuners.

Oh and thats pretty sweet to have a 9" now .. Good luck with everything.

thanks man, im just hoping its not a piston/ring issue, i mean, if its valve seals/seats thats going to suck, but i can deal with that. if its short block related, im tearing it down and going fully forged. maybe even 403 LS2.

yes, updates...sorry folks,

2 weeks ago, brought it home from the tuner, decided to tear the top end apart, change valve springs, check pushrod length and head gaskets. got the valve cover off, coil packs, rocker arms....proceded to remove the back left valve spring and promptly droped a lock down an oil passage in the head. so fast forward to today....got both heads off and successfully changed all 16 springs back in the shop far far away from any holes in the motor.

tomorrow looking to bolt the heads back up and get the valve train re measured and assembled. then, i accquired some edelbrock stainless 1 3/4"-1 7/8" X 3 1/2" headers that will be put on hopefully sometime this weekend before tuesday. then its back to the tuner for a better tune if my valve float issues are solved.

eric, ill be in town tomorrow, but obviously i wont have the car, but if you need a camera man or w/e ill be there.

hey man personaly it soulds like the cam is off bro...nice build bro....i kinda did the same thing as you and ppl thought i was like stoned or something but you know when you have a passion for cars as much as ppl like us then you rspect your cars and do what it takes to get your baby back on the road again....in my position though the bottm end went out in my motor and it had 2:73s and an auto ...which i didnt want the last two and the motor needed gone throughanyways....so my buddy had just totaleed his 97 SS that had 3:42s and a 6 spd with a fresh motor that was bored .030 over and a bunch of other ****...so i threw all that in my car...wow what a project i tell ya....had to have the harness reworked and everything...it straight up was a project but ill tell ya in the end it will be worth it though....nice work man and keep it up...

i checked and rechecked the cam multiple times before i put the cover back on. i took the chain off and moved it one tooth to each side to check to make sure it was dot to dot. if this doesnt take care of it, then i will pull the front cover and check it again.

That was one of the LONGEST weekends of my life. Hopefully its the valve springs. I'll have some 7.4 pushrods coming there late september if those 7.350's end up being to short.

i heard that mike, but i couldnt have done it without your help. i appreciate it. im going to check the pushrods and stuff tomorrow, im hoping since i put thinner head gaskets on it, the 350's will be right. but i doubt it knowing my luck.

thankyou fellers. its been an experience let me tell you, but i've gained a TON of experience along the way and now i know the car inside and out. IMO, no one knows one of these cars truely untill its been torn apart and put back together for one reason or another.

alright guys, valve springs were infact the problem. fixed them about a week or so ago, been driving the wheels off of it since. pulls like a freight train all the way to 7000 RPM. ran a 7.557 @ ~91mph last friday night. i only got one run and i missed 4th gear so i only got 1/8 mile times. ill have some 1/4 mile times tomorrow evening.

big thanks to Tracy from Cincy Speed for his tuning help. great guy to work with.
