tips for touching up and repainting and pearl
Engine is coming out and I have a few scratches to fix. while I was at it I was thinking about hitting it with some pearl.
My plan was to wash it all down with a cleaner, not sure what to use. Then hand sand it with 320 and use a rubber block on the scratch area's to bring the paint down even.
Then wipe it down again wiht the above solution and use and then use a tack cloth. Then spray it with black. Then I was going to use some pearl in a clear coat to finish it off.
Never done it on my own before, have a small paint gun to practice with on models but how big of a gun do I really need ? It's 210cc. I didnt want to change the color dramatcally just give it a hint. I've had the intake painted SOM over black. I'd like to repaint the car one day to SOM or maybe a variation from HOK. Car is currently black.
SO my plan was to add some dry pearl to clear and spray it lightly.

ok I would clean it with wax and grease remover then sand the flat spots with a da sander if you have one with 320 grit and hand sand everything else with 500 grit, scratches with a block. Also use a red scuff pad in the corners. clean it again and tack it off. I might put down a coat of sealer to make it perfect (but probley not required if the scratches are minor) followed by 3 coats of black and 3 of clear.

Is this a good purchase? Can I spray the pearl in a clear over this? How long do I wait till its tacky or completely dry to the touch? isnt there a within 3hr or wait 48hr thing?

first off, spray your sealer let it flash off complety then spray your coats of black. The first one is an enamel and you do not want that because it is not designed for a clear over it. the second one says you can but I have never used it to know. Ideal would be a base coat clear coat system. I would go to a automotive paint store and talk to the about a system. since it is under hood you could use a cheaper brand like nasons or omni. put the pearl in the clear and spray 3 medium coats of it,BE CAREFUL NOT TO RUN THE PEARL as it will look like @$$ if you do. or another way would be to spray 2 coats of clear with the pearl in it allow it to flash off then 1-2 heavery coat of clear without pearl(not so heavy you run it). This will give you somethin to buff with out affecting your pearl.

Thx, Been looking around and Napa is he only place local to me to get supplies So... ebay is my friend... Actaully called HOK and spoke with them as the prices are very close to NAPA and I'm using their pearl.
SO I'm going with bc25. I havent thought about the sealer yet but I will go with their product. I wasnt going to seal it but maybe I should?
So anyway the bc25 uses ru-310 reducer which I use in the sd-100 clear coat to carry the pearl as well so I actualy save some money I think. I dont have to use a hardener I dont think that I can see. I'm going to download thier tech sheet and read up on it better.
OK the friggin sg100 need to be kleared and that is where the damn costs come in holy ****! $183 delivered just to paint the engine bay. Tells me how much it will cost to paint the whole car .. yikes

DO I have to seal it? its 2-3 weeks for delivery for the sealer.. does it need it or can I get away without it? Its the engine bay. Its painted already. If I get bare metal spot I'll prime them I guess? with a rattle cam primer

yes u will use less basecoat and it will cover better if u use sealer
it will also feel better when done sealer is like a cushion thats why it helps protect from rock chips because it cushions the blows

you probley could get away without sealer, but I still recommend it. Just get a quart of sealer from napa it should only cost 20-30 dollars. And yes it does cost alot to paint a car, aleast it does when you do it the right way.

sealer is after primer, but you dont need primer unless you've got bare metal is my understanding.
