probably a dumb question, but do you think this would work on headlights as well?

You can, a lot of people will tint them VERY lightly, if you do them dark, plan on getting HID's or something to make up for it.

If I was you, I would do the automotive clear with some black in it. Reason being you wont be able to spray out a nice even coat with a rattle can, I dont care how good you may be. A gun will spray much more even.
