if you ever used ppg`s dbc system you know that the base coat mixed with dx57 in my opinion is one of the best base coats that lay down flat, and the ncs sealer also lays down flat, those steps also help allot in a good paint job
i have my own way and it works for me and i have had no complaints
X2 on everything you said... I like the 2042 clear w/ 898 reducer, 3 coats, let it sit for a day or 2 (that is if it was baked), wet sand with 2000 and buff.

And the only time I do any sanding on by basecoat is if there is dirt, fisheye, ect.. Then I recoat with basecoat then clear coat. You wet sand out the orange peal in the clear and buff. If your getting that bad of orange peal in your base then your gun isn't set up right or your using too fast of a reducer in your base.

I start with 1500 and finish with 2000. Takes me a LONG time since I use soap in my water, but I get good results. If you get good results with your way, by all means don't stop! Seriously! lol Swat
