Default Paint still rough after claybar

I just picked up an '02 Z06 with only 10k miles. The paint look fantastic, but even after doing my normal routine of washing with dish soap, claybarring, washing with normal soap, and adding zaino the paint still feels rough when I run my hand across. I'm not sure how to go about smoothing it out without messing up the paint which still look perfect. Any ideas?

You could pick up some 2k grit and wetsand it some, take a spray bottle with a couple drops of dish soap, spray down an area to wetsand, get the sandpaper wet and sand it, just be careful to keep little bits of dirt and stuff out of it because it will scratch the paint.

I'd say go over it again with the claybar first...sometimes you gotta go over areas more than once, at least I've had to, in order to get everything off your paint. Try that before you do any sanding at least.

Too bad you don't live up in Dallas, i could check it out and tell you what to do. Hard to say not being there myself. I'd try claying it again, make sure the clay is soft and use plenty of whatever you are using for lubrication. You shouldn't need to sand anything to get the surface smooth, unless it is some serious overspray...which you should still be able to clay off, but it will just take a lot more work.

Well, it is the factory paint. My claybar is 6 yrs old, but i always keep it sealed up in a jar with some carwash soap and water. I think I will try a new claybar.
I was scrubbing pretty good on the headlamp. 2 tries and not much improvement.

Any good links? My method listed in the original post has always done it for me so I have no experience with wetsanding, buffing, etc.

I don't think I would wet sand an entire car with factory paint. It isn't thick enough to withstand sanding and still be protective. Especially if the paint looks perfect. clay again then buff.

Check you tube. There are some instructional videos available.

Definitely need a new bar...

...and clay won't do squat on our headlights. You need to sand those down, starting with about a 600grit, sand it smooth and then go over it again with some 1500 and then to 2000. Then after it is smooth you need to get some of this http://www.spadepot.com/shop/Novus-S...-P757C633.aspx and go from 3 down to 1.

To be honest, my car was still gritty after I clayed my car. The paint looks good, it just feels gritty.

Well, sure enough a new claybar did the trick!! Talk about a HUGE relief! I bought a Mcguires claybar kit(couldn't get just the bar), and I did the front half of the car already. It took tons of passes, but it looks fantastic now.

Here's a couple of pics before the wax. Just finished the front of the car.

Sell that clunker and buy an LT1. Who cares how the paint feels, it looks great and drives greater.

yeah i have a buffing writeup for you if your interested in it but its for the use of a high speed rotary buffer which i do not recommend unless you have something to practice on first. also like stated above i wouldnt recommend wetsanding the factory clear.
