Are Camaro SS After market Hoods crap?

I don't think you're suppose to Paint or Wax a Carbon Fiber Hood.
Also,... when I purchased my VFN Hood they said to place it on the car for
about a month so that it would finish molding to the car prior to painting.
This way it doesn't crack the paint when it DOES mold to the car.
Has a LOT to do with Sun/Heat Exposer.
As far as CF Hoods go.... I'm not sure why you have the Waves and Ridges now.
The Fish Eyes were a Paint defect

Actually the hood I bought was purchased by a member of this board a full year or more before he put it up for sale. His project car was sold before he ever got to put the hood on it or paint it. So. . . it was pretty much cured when I got it here. No need to wait longer to paint it, and I had a pro do the job on a weekend at the dealer he worked for during the week. He prepped it and prepped it until his fingers were bleeding according to him. He was worried about it being CF and having that factory gel coat on it, so he was very careful with the paint job. Still got orange peel after a month.
The waves/ridges deal might have something to do with what you mentioned, we didn't get the word on waiting a month after bolting it on the car before painting it. Maybe that was what caused those ridges to show up later after the CF took a "set" from the pressures pulling on it from the mounting points.
I guess it's a little late now, and I'm not sweating them because you can't see them unless the light hits them just right. If it was some show car, you would be tearing your hair out by now.
Still didn't get my camera back, but found one pic on my hard drive where the hood is open out at the track in the pits. Have attached that one, you can get some idea from this pic. Need to take another one with the hood shut and up closer. Will do that when I get my camera back. CF is sure light! PITA to paint, but dropped about 50 lbs. off the front of the car.

Yep,... VFN Hoods Kick Serious ***!!!
No Fitting issues/horrors. I've been having mine for 4+ Years and haven't had any issues.
TRUE,... it does depend on your finishing skills as do Most Aftermarket Hoods.
Mine is the Bolt-On Style do to the Extra Internal Supports vs the Pin-On "Light Weight".
Take a Look...
Any Questions?

Still didn't get my camera back yet, but found where one more pic was hiding on this hard drive. Had to blow it up some, because it was taken from a distance at night in the staging lanes just before I pulled into the waterbox.
At least this one shows it with the hood closed.

to save yourself a couple hundred dollars by going with an aftermarket hood really isnt worth it. I purchased an aftermarket replacement SS hood and it fit okay, very wavy and i had to block sand the hell out of it to look decent, still wavy as all hell though. I also couldnt use my hood struts anymore because the hood was so damn weak, it was lightweight, but cheap and would crack if i put them on, even with one on it wanted to crack. Overtime the hood will get worse, mine already has developed a few cracks in it which dont look too nice. If i were you i would anty up now and get an OEM SS hood from SLP. That would be your best option and save you problems and frustrations down the road!

CHEVY CAMARO 98-02 SS OEM Style Fiberglass HOOD
Hmmm. . . were you saying this is a Carbon Fiber hood??
Very plainly states that it is a fiberglass OEM "style" SS hood.
Carbon fiber hoods are extremely expensive to make. VFN gets $1450.00 retail for the one on my car. If you ever found a CF hood for $400 from a reputable company, it would be a steal.
keycompositesgroup has anyone ever heard of this company?
It looks to me like just another cheaply made knock off SS fiberglass hood that won't fit and will probably be crappy in the way it was made. IMHO
Most of these knock off hoods are junk, and I would stay far away.
