Default primering front bumper

I have almost finished sanding the front bumper of my ta down to urethane and I am wondering if i have to use an adhesion promoter to get primer to stick or can I just primer it?

If you sanded it down to the actual plastic yes you absolutely have to use a adhesion promoter before you primer it other wise it won't stick. If you feather edged it right and didn't go through the factory primer then no you don't.

As the saying goes if it floats promote! meaning with a razor blade take a small piece off your bumper and gently place into a cup of water if it floats then promote pretty easy but to be safe i would use promoter all ways and remember to use a flex agent added through the whole process that way the paint will resist cracking and rock chips

yeah its through the factory primer

the whole bumper was spider webbed to hell and there were at least 2-3 different color paint jobs done on it so it all had to come off.

I am rattle canning the primer do they make one with flex agent in it already

Ok if you had to take it down that far I would lay 1 light, 1 medium wet, and 1 wet coat of the adhesion promoter to make sure you get a good bond. As far as primer I personally would use a good quality primer instead of rattle can. Of course your your budget and color of car can make a difference.

I had a Mystic Green T/A and repainted the front bumper and it didn't match worth a damn. Then I resprayed it using a PPG Blue-Green primer and it came out perfect. Just remember a paint job will only look as good as the prep work underneath it.

Sorry I forgot to answer one question. I have not seen a rattle can with a flex agent in it. I always get the at my paint supplier and add it to my sealers, primers, colors, and clears.

With that color I would go with light grey primer. Then you can lay your color until you get the shade right. SOM is not a dark color so if you use a dark primer it can actually darken the finshed tone.

there is no need for an adheshion promoter before primer on plastic, if it floats you must promote works on repiaring plastic, import bumpers come raw plastic and a adheshion promoter must be used
if you use ppg ncp 271, i would do dx801 just for that extra bite from the product, but its not nessecary or you can use ppg`s plastic primer another great primer, and that needs no adheshion promter at all
