Default So skip the Sail Panel?

Sorry, just wanted to be sure about this. Since, my roof top is filled with bubbles should I skip body work/painting that area and just paint the rest of the car? From what I understand (by reading the posts) is the problem would reoccur later anyway unless the panels are replaced and the correct glue is used. Thanks.

I would replace the Roof Panel before getting the Car Painted.

do it all at the same time because your going to kick yourself in the *** when your repainting the roof when the rest of the car has fresh paint.

There would be no pointing in sanding/re-painting the roof. You have to get rid of the glue

I read at Pontiac Performance mag about a sealer that could be used to stop the bubbles from returning. Dont know if that's accurate but it wont hurt doing some research on it.

Is it possible to reuse the existing panel or does it go in the trash bin?

It's impossible to get the panel off without destroying it.

So I'm either waiting for an ebay auction, buying it from GM (yeah right), waiting for the carbon fiber panel (not sure if it would match) or just skipping it for now? BTW, I put on a Sunoco hood and shortly an SS spoiler on my Z28 so that's why I'm thinking paint soon.

I think he means you would be able to sand out the existing roof panel and the put the "sealer" on then simply re-paint.

If that's true I hope someone has the article handy? If it's just sanding and prep work that's a whole lot better than replacing the panels.

Sorry... just read it another thread.... looks like that sealer is sprayed on the underside of the panel.

It is a preventive measure.... not a curative one.

I'm with this guy. I looked into getting my roof panel replaced and I decided to just hold off and get it done when I got around to getting the whole thing re-shot.

Of course, I'm selling the car now (roof bubbles and all), so the new owner can take all the money he/she would have spent on mods and spend it on getting the roof panel replaced instead.

I'm seriously considering selling my car as well. GM is just pissing me off. They may drive me to getting IMPort.

Another option which is actually another body panel would be to put 6LITEREATERS Targa top. Although I have no idea on pricing plus shipping to Hawaii.

That would only cover the front part of a hard-top.... still leaves the sail panel problem.

Maybe someone could come up with a thin ABS sail panel that would install over the existing panel.

Sounds like 6LITEREATERS got another project.
