what a pisser. don't get mad, get even. If you paid with credit card, refuse the dealer charges if they are enough. If not, stick around in the evenings and see what the mechs drive home. Good luck.

A lot depends on what papers you signed when you gave them the car to work on. Some shops have fine print releasing them from liability of theft. Check into it...

Wow, that sucks, i work for a Toyota delership, and we recenly had a few cars boken into, and im pretty sure we had the cars repaired for the customers no charge. I have seen some places that have on there paperwork they arent responsible for stolen or missing items from cars. I think thats a bad way to do business. Sorry to hear that man.

Default theft

well im not sure how it works in your state, but in california this is the deal :

the fine print on our workorders state we are not responsible for theft, but here is what happens in court :

the law here states we are not responsible in we have shown reasonable protection for the vehicle while under our care. ( if someone breaks in to the shop by cutting locks, breaking down doors, gates, etc, then we have shown reasonable care to protect it ) but heres the catch, we STILL have insurance THAT WILL COVER IT, its a grey area, but if you were to sue and win, then the insurance company WILL PAY, or if they do not have insurance, then a judgement against them with a court order demand letter to the bank and you can get your money back

hope this helps
