All JPR is selling you for your $100+ is two 5/16 rods with handles on the end. Probably costs them under $10 to make.

The easiest thing I've found is just an 8 inch 3/8 socket extension. Works just as good as any of the tools or dowels and alot of people have them in there tool boxes.

Using the rods, do you have to remove the lifters at anytime before or during the cam swap?

There is no way a 3/8 extension will work. Only a 5/16 rod will fit and it will need to be about 22" long to hold all the lifters up.

You never have to remove the lifters. Your only using the rods to hold the lifters from falling into the oil pan once the cam is removed.
