99 and up temp. guage

99 and up temp. guage Well we all know that 99 and up temp guages read 210 even when you know the car runs 162. does anyone know why? Went to the dealer today to order an oil pres sending unit While I was there I asked the parts guy to check the temp sending unit to see if 98 was the same as the 99 and up and its different has anyone tried changing the sending unit to the 98 or dont you think it would matter?

99 is 2 wire (pcm, power)
the problem is the gauge cluster. That's just the way the clusters are built.
To switch to a 98 cluster you have to switch to a 98 PCM and fuel tank, or do some clever wiring with your fuel level signals to get your fuel level gauge to work.
In all practicality.. it ain't gonna happen so deal with it.

Re: 99 and up temp. guage When I changed my fan turn on/off temps on my 99 the guage went down also. Is the guage showing the fan target temp? I have #1 fan set for on=200, off = 195, fan #2 on=205, off=200. My guage now reads under the 210 mark and it was always above before I set the fan temps. Just a thought, guess I will know more when I install a 160 degree stat.
