Default Knock Sensor

i got a check engine light that states that the knock sensors have low circuit input bank 1 and bank 2. Ive been searching on here awhile about this problem, people have said to replace both sensors and the wiring harness and be sure not to pinch the wires when re-installing the intake. I then came across a thread where someone told me that 98 Ls1's (which is what i have) had major problems with the knock sensors and that when you replace them youll still get the check engine light and the 4 degree retard of timing, he then said just tune out the knock sensors would be the best thing. Is this something i can do with a tech 2 or do i need to find a tuner? thanks

might want to pull the intake and make sure they arent rusted. if you like spraying your engine down allot to keep it clean, the water may have gotten under the intake to cause the rust.

I bought my 98 off the showroom floor and have never had an issue with the knock sensors like the stories you have read.

They are there for a reason- to pull timing in the pressence of actual knock. This is a good thing. The 98 knock sensor software is a bit agressive I admit but, better safe than sorry.

How long have you owned the car? Is the original LS1 intake still on the car? Many of these cars at this point have been modded and then put back to stock for resale. This is where someone could have pinched a knock sensor wire underneath the intake while re-installing... Or, water could have migrated up underneath the intake and gone by the sensor covers and rusted them out. You'll never know till you pull it.

Last thing on earth would be to turn off their functionality.

What part of Iowa are you from?

I've owned the car for about a year and a half and its been trouble ever since with the tranny and this knock sensor thing. It does have an LS6 intake, it was already on the car when i bought it so maybe a wire was pinched, ill try replacing them and hopefully that will fix the problem.

im actually from bettendorf (the quad cities area on the border of iowa and illinois) Thanks for the help

Any more updates? My tuner said I needed to replace mine, b/c he heard and saw knock characteristics from his scanner and tuner. But the Knock Sensors did not show anything. But they aren't throwing codes.

I have the car apart and the knock sensors look brand new. Been in the car for atleast 2 1/2+ years since I've owned it.

Any info?

I replaced both knock sensors and the harness when I had my car all apart. Your parts are old and are throwing codes. Unless you pinched the harness I would put in new stuff and never look back.

If both are throwing a code, it is most likely the harness.......I just had to buy one from my dealer (think it was around $50)
