Default Excessive backfire problem

I have a '00 ls1 that for the past week has backfired about 4 times. Each time is while I am decelerating in a low gear between 4500 down to 3k rpms. It finally blew apart the band clamp for my header/y-pipe and blew the y-pipe off the right header last night. Fixed that today. Does anyone know what might be causing this excessive backfiring.

Sounds like it's time for a new tuning if you ask me...
