Default Fried my Cats!
Just as a word of warning to those that turn off COTS, looks like I destroyed both my cats on those high-speed runs at the Salt Flats. I turned off COTS so I wouldn't loose power right at the critcal moment during my runs. Now I'm getting an OB2 "not ready" on the catylitic system. I checked the voltage on both rear O2s and they seem to be flat-lining at 900 mv.

Sounds like it's not that uncommon to destroy the cats after turing off COTs. So I guess I'll go to off-road pipes when I put the headers on; but I think I'll put flanges on them so I can put the cats back in when I need smog-legal status.

Just curious? When you "fry" the cats do they just stop working or do they melt down or something? Do they create more back pressure when they fail?

Time for O2 Simms. They output a nice squarewave that toggles between 435mV and 735mV. Keeps the PCM quite happy.

COTS Disabled here with Jet Hots new catted ypipe. Been on the dyno several times, Road Raced, and been on several long trips and haven't had any problems yet.

I'm wondering if it may be safer to turn off COTS when running headers since the cats don't get as hot farther from the engine.

They get hot, but probably not as hot as the stock manifold cat set-up which is way further up stream.
