Default Lap top computer stand for our cars?

I am looking for a lap top computer stand that bolts or welds to the tranny tunnel. Or where ever they mount to. Any of our sponsers carry these? Know where I can find one? Links?
I want to secure my lap top for A-tap diagnostics.
TIA
Tom

Afterthoughts Automotive has one. Check the sponsor list.

You can also search around with Google for police cruiser equipment. They are alot cheaper from other websites.

Thats would be my concern also, the last thing I need is my laptop flying into the back.

I think on the afterthoughts design they use steel cable or something not sure but it also has nothing to hold the laptop open under extreme gforces so I'd end up making a bracket to hold it open but whos gonna have the laptop open directly in front of them so the g-forces hit it strait on? it would all be sideloaded meaning it shouldnt fold at all. I've used my laptop in my car on hundreds of occasions not that im pulling the g's some of you are but sideloading it wouldnt mess too much with it unless your lifting the front tires 4 feet in the air and coming down like a freight train which would in the end close it...a hinged bracket would be an easy fix either way but probably not necessary.

I have the stand by afterthoughts and it's a very nice piece... very easily adjusted, easily removed for passengers...

Sturdy piece... granted I'm not cutting 1.4 second 60' times but I've taken some hard turns and hard brakes and the laptop stays where it's supposed to.

Laptop is secured by two rubber coated steel lines, plus there's friction pads under the laptop... so it really doesn't go anywhere...

Moves around alot less than my laptop used to while on the passenger seat

i think instead of the friction pads i'll incorporate a couple strips of velcro still not sure how to hold it down but maybe you guys can help http://store5.yimg.com/I/afterthough..._1761_38470723 where the rod meets the mounting plate did they use some thin sheet metal and weld that to the rod and then to the plate to hold it in place? I'm trying to brainstorm to find thee strongest way to do this for anyone that wants to donate a few bucks to get one for themselves I'd like to do it right the first time and cheap. If anyone has any ideas on if my sheetmetal idea would work or if they think they have somethingi better let me know id like to try what works.

It never occured to me until I saw a friend do it. You can use the seat belt to hold the laptop on the passenger seat.

I sent a picture of the laptop stand to my buddy Jeff last year. His only comment was about adding weight to his 9 second Z-28. However, I'm inclined to worry about a 1.30-1.40 60ft time causing the laptop problems on the mount.

Having a $1500 laptop become a flying projectile sounds bad. Very bad. I suppose if you really lash that baby down, and put it down low for hard launches it would be okay.

Are you able to configure the laptop sideways so you can see it and allow for a passenger and still clear the center console?

yes, it has several pivot spots... granted it's not the most comfy or safe thing if you have a passenger, but it can be moved around in many directions.

The top portion comes off really easily ... so when I have passengers in my car I just take the laptop tray off and stick it in back.. (thumb screw, takes all of 5 seconds)

I've also had passengers in the car w/the laptop stand in front of them watching as I log... however I would not reccommend this as it's positioned right where the air bags are... so 1 bad mistake and your laptop may get a lil bloody...

How low can you get it to the passenger-seat?

I have been thinking about getting one. Was it worth the $$$?

Has anyone mounted a laptop up in a C5? Are the mounting points the same b/w F-Body and C5's?

Tom:

If the passenger seat is out, you could easily rig up a stand to fit your laptop and secure it to the car using the seat studs.

Looks great! Which unit is this? Is there something you're using to help hold the laptop open in that picture?
