Default EGR removal

If I remove the EGR and have it edited out of the computer will there be any adverse effects? More knock, engine running hotter etc.

There are some pretty major timing map differences between EGR and non EGR cars. I had to slash timing in the low and high load cells between 400-3000+rpm. You'll probably experience some pretty serious kr if you don't remap the ignition timing.

Good luck,

Richard

Maybe I should leave it hooked up? I'm just not sure if the S&P headers I planned to use have provisions.

What values do you suggest using. Should the 01-02 timing map be used for EGR vehcles that have it deleted

I removed my EGR on my 98 and it took away all the knock retard I had been getting. It was one of the best mods I've done lately. I have even added 2 degrees of timing and still no KR. I think it may depend on the car on how the results are going to come out. It should allow more clean air into the cylinder, instead of used exausht, so it should help more than it will hinder.

That seems odd. If the purpose of the EGR is to kill some of the intake charge why would removing it make i difference in KR. If anything removing it should make the vehicle detonate a little more because the timming would then be to aggresive for the extra air and fuel entering the engine via the "cleaner" charge.

Humpin: Your on the right track. The recirculated exhaust gases squash detonation by actually cooling the combustion charge. Of course this only occurs during part throttle operation. Using the timing values from the '01&'02 cars is a good start. You may find that you can increase or decrease a few degrees from those values.

Good luck,

Richard

I did not remove my EGR until I put a different cam in. I have a 2000 and I actually added MORE timing (31 degrees at WOT). and I still get no knock.

With a stock cam you may have to change the timing tables a bit, but I do not know for sure. I think the more overlap the cam has the less need for an EGR system, but I might be way off on this...

I thought it was weird that it worked that way, but it did. I put the LS6 intake and LS6 PCV Valley setup at the same time that I scrapped EGR and AIR. Before that, I had the infamous 98 3.9* of KR, after I had 0* plus I upped timing by 2*.
