SES light and car sputters
If it still does it in open loop, then we are back to what I suspect is still a lean fueling issue.
Your MAF is the next big contributor to fueling. Try checking it and cleaning it with some MAF cleaner.
If your fuel filter became plugged then you should be able to tell with a fuel pressure gauge on the rail. Hook it up and see if your pressure is 58 psi. Rev the car up and see if it drops more then just a few PSI.
If everything checks out, we may want to start looking at ignition....changing plugs and wires, etc...

I changed back to the stock maf (had a slp on it) and it started sputtering again and the clanking sound is back in the exaust again. Do I need to hook the back two o2s? Also the car seems to idle down eith the front two off; should it still do that?
I would gamble that the plugs/wires go before a coil pack.
I would also hook your two O2 sensors up again. Clearly, they aren't the problem.
