Personally, I turn it off. If you are beating on your car regularly then your CATs aren't going to go the distance anyways.

If you change the COT enrichment commanded, to
the same as your PE / EQ vs MAP vs ECT table
values then it will be unnoticeable when it does
kick on. Somewhat less effective perhaps. But
never seen anything on just how much fuel it
takes to stay "safe".
