is there a simple fix and what would cause it to cause this problem and throw the code?

What mods have you done to the car? Could possibly be the check valve on the top of the passenger side exhaust manifold stuck closed.

none other than K&N that was back in 2001 and the filter has been cleaned per k&n specs.
anyways,i think i will change both check valves and cross my fingers.
as we all know the car runs fine but the check engine light comes on,i will just delete it with my scanner,after so long it will come back on.
