its not that simple.... other people i know that did the swap... their gauges still work.... the only gauge that shouldnt work is the fuel gauge which i can help you fix.

you should not have to repin the cluster or even change it, Are you sure you connected the correct wires? I did the same swap, and the only change I had to make was in the tune, to allow the fuel gauge to work, the rest, mph, tach, volts, water, oil pressure all worked correctly, just doing the repin

You do not want to plug in a 99 cluster without repinning it, or you will fry the cluster, blow fuses, or both.

so i do---or dont need to repin the cluster?????...
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN and is there a write up on it/?????
99 wireharness has 2 plugs that goes through the firewall
98 has 3.....that has to be where the prob is i just need to know how to fix it

Did you change harnesses, or did you change the pinout of the PCM?

If you did the harness, you will need to add some wires to make everythign work correct. I do not have this information, since I never attempted to change harnesses, only do the repin.

Personally, if I had a donor car, I would swap every wire from 1 to the other, and put a plastic tank in the 98 car.

Repinning the cluster, least from what I understand, means changing the pinout of wires from under your dash so that they match the pinout of the gauge cluster.

Have you tried using your 98 gauge cluster to see if it works? If not, try that. If your 98 cluster still works, then you prolly need to change the pinout of the cluster connector. When we put a 98 LS1 into my 97 v6, I tried using a 98 gauge cluster. It didn't work...when I turned on my blinker the oil pressure gauge ticked back and forth, lol. I switched back to my 97 v6 cluster and it worked fine, so i just kept my v6 cluster rather than having to reqire all of it under the dash.

If you changed the engine wiring harness from a 98 to a 99, you'll need to match up the wires to your 98 body harness. I think the 3 connectors your talking about (the ones that go through the passenger's side firewall) are C210, C220 & C230. I remember C220 is white, C230 is blue, don't remember C210...white or grey? If you did switch the wiring harness, which is what it sounds like you did, you need to repin those connectors to match your body wiring. I have pinouts for the 98 connectors if you'd like.
Here's a link to a guy's site that swapped in a 99 LS1. He has the pins for your two 99 connectors, and other good info.
