I'll have to test that with tunercats, but I am fairly sure that is just programming the file back in, and not getting around the checksum permanant fault.

The MDI is supposed to have a line recovery mode.
I have never used it for that.
I have forced several cals into a V6 PCM just to recover it with the version of winflash that I use.

You could be the first in hisotry they've given credits back to. I think I talked to the credit **** with my issue. Basically it was my fault for this and that. I've worked out another method tho. Good luck!

Im pretty sure your right in me being the first in history, but lets face the facts, im a good guy, i contribute on their board, i am a long term customer, and im gonna spend a lot more in the future... instead of them not giving me a few credits back and be maybe going with EFI live and giving business to them, why not give me a few credits and i am a long term customer... a happy long term customer, now all i will do is say good things about them, no matter what.

So did they help you out with the credits? I agree that it'd be the nice thing for them to do. I'll be doing the 2 bar flash in a few days myself to get ready for a few addons. Hopefully everything will go smooth.

I plead the 5th... in any case, they went above and beyond for a loyal customer and i appreciate that, a lot... if you dont have a 1998 im sure it will be nothing but smooth sailing bro.

Interesting. My 98 crapped out a few weeks ago when I loaded the new OS, and was told there was nothing they would do. I might even have the e-mail still.

I am not mad or anything like that as it was better in the long run to get the 02' computer, but it's just strange that they will help some folks and not others. I don't know whether that is good customer service or not. I am willing to accept the fact that the 98 ecu's blow *****, and knew that before I went to write it and there is a huge chance of it not working. And before anyone says it was user error, no. It was loaded properly.

Just my experience.

FWIW we offered replacement credits for the VCM Enhancement license Brian has, we do NOT issue replacement credits for the pcm.

We simply cannot cover a fried pcm as it does happen however rare it may be(I flashed my 98 Camaro's pcm hundreds of times without failure as have others).

I am sorry if what I said implied that there should be a pcm replacement. There shouldn't be of course. I mean another one runs a $100. But no matter the cost you are selling a tool to modify a part. I do like the software, thank you.

I had an issue with my 98 pcm but i was alwys able to get the pcm back by pulling the pcm fuse for a few minutes. My cable broke after that so i think it wasnt a softwear issue but a harwear issue my cable was about 4 years old though so that stuff happens.

I have tuned countless 97-98 and 99+ pcms with stock and custom os's with HPT and I have never cooked one... I tuned a lot of cars, and I still using my original Hptuner cable from 06.... simply do not get how you guys are bricking your pcm's.....

I agree 100% and my HPT cable also is pretty old. Never had problem with HPT or EFI in vehicles or on my bench harness. After flashing thousands of pcms problem free its safe to say there isnt anything wrong with either software in my eyes.

Good battery, new USB cable, triple check the loaded tune and fully charged laptop battery are tuner's best friends. I have never bricked a single PCM, I'm always careful and when I find something strange I prefer to check it before I go doing a write entire.

If you do things the kamikaze style you will eventually get in trouble
