Question HPTuners Quick Help

This seems like a dumb question, and I have a message into HPT about it but I was hoping someone here has maybe ran into it and can answer a little more quickly.

I am new to HPTuners, but not to tuning. I have the VCM Suite 2.22, and Windows XP, when I try to install the suite is says I need .net 2.0, well I downloaded it and installed it and it still says that every time I try to install it .. What can I do to get it to install?

It said the same thing for me and I just installed the .net 2.0 from the Customer Page on HPtuners and then installed VCM Suite 2.22. I would try restarting your computer after the .net install then trying to install the VCM Suite.

If it keeps saying net 2.0 isn't installed its probably not installed on your pc. The link to net framework net 2.0 is on your customer login page at www.hptuners.com

I have .net 2.0 framework, downloaded it from the site, installed successfully and restarted and still the same error, then I tried to install again and the setup say its already installed but VCM says its still not there. =[

Are you installing it to a network drive or something? I've seen this a few times where customers have tried to install it to a shared network drive which can cause an issue but other than that theres really no reason our software would ask for it unless its not there.

No, stand alone laptop. I dont understand it either ... just strange and apparently no one else runs into it either, so if it comes down to it I'll just reinstall the operating system and start from scratch. I have a few weeks before I need to start tuning the car anyway.

Edit: and what I find odd about it is that its running xp sp3 which should have .net 2.0 or even up to 3.5 I think so I was thinking it was something else.

Next question, I dont have a serial port on my laptop, seems they quit putting them on laptops about 3 years ago, can I just use a usb to OBDII cable, and can the software support that? Or will I need to get a PCI card with a 9pin Serial port?

Cable example : Here

Our package comes with all of the cables you need, we haven't sold serial interfaces in ~3 years now, its all usb now. I have no clue how you would use that cable you posted a picture of.

I am having the same issue as the OP had. I have installed net 2.0 a few times from the hp tuners site and restarted my computer each time. However, I am still getting the error. Regular laptop here, no network drives. Also, I have v2.22 and from the site it seems this cd should have net 2.0 on it? Any help is greatly appreciated,

Gabe
