How to swap from 98 to 99+.. guide, sorta Guys, i just completed the 98 to 99+ swap (used a 2002 ecu) took me 3 hours, and it works GREAT!! everything is SOOOOO much nicer, writing tunes is twice as fast, tuning is so much easier, omg.... i cant beleive i waited till my 98 took a **** to do this! i recommend all of you do it... PM me for more info if your serious about doing it i will walk ya through it via chat or something
if your using a hpp3 to tune with there is no benefit of changing the processor. you will need tuning software to get the benefit of this mod.

sorry for the delayed responce, you have to reregister a new vcm... and no hp tuners wont give you a break on that new vcm since your switching to a new one, my suggestion would be to give it to a buddy who has a 98 but whos car isnt tuned yet and let him borrow your interface, or write it off as a loss.
What is the advantage of a 99-02 computer over a 98? Processor speed only? If so, that likely would not be an issue to most people. How does a faster processor effect engine performance on the average car? I thought they went to the faster processor just to manage all of the additional EPA crap. If you have all of that EPA stuff off the car, do you need the faster processor?

Verdad Gallardo Cool. I did notice some new options when I was experimenting between a 98 and 2002 with HP. This HP tuner gig is still new to me, so I am learning on the fly.
I know from hooking a tack up on a 98 and then on a 02 that the pinning locations of the wires are not the same. So is that what a guy has to change, the pinning location of wires on the connectors at the VCM? Will all of the 98 sensors work with a 99-02 VCM? Is there a schematic to guide you through it?
