Default Dell d610 for tuning

Is the dell d610 laptop, 1.86 GHz processor, 60GB hard drive, 1GB Memory, a good laptop for me if all i want to do is use it strictly for tuning? I have access to one for 285 that includes a carry bag and docking station.

I will use hptuners most likely, but also possibly EFI live.

My job assigned me that laptop and that's exactly what I use most of the time. No problems. As long as the computer doesn't have addware or spyware you should be fine.

I've even used laptops that have way way lower capacity hardware and was fine. I've got an old 200mhz 128mb laptop that worked fine.

It's not too bad since it includes the dock but you can pick up a hella powerful new one nowadays for like 500. I like to hit tigerdirect.com on their sale days for new stuff. If you get a new one stay as far away as you can from hp/compaq laptops. They have a history of losing video. I have two coworkers that got those laptops and one failed in warranty period and the other failed 2 months after it ended. So we looked it up and there is a website up with literally thousands of reports of the same exact problem.

I don't buy used laptops because they almost always have a bad battery and other wear and tear. And if the batter is flat your going to have to run a converter. It's a good idea to do that anyway though. But if you get it it does have the power to do what you want.

EDIT: If you don't get that one don't get ANY compaq/hp laptop made in the last 4 years or so. I don't do business with a company that knowingly pumps out faulty products.

I primarily use a sub-GHz, 256MB notebook and it
hangs fine. I found 266MHz to be marginal and
380MHz to be OK, back when those were my
"beaters" and the 600MHz my "good" one. Should
be no trouble. But some antivirus programs can
hassle startup regardless of CPU speed.
