I will be using a bare 5.3l 4th gen engine block(Iron) with DOD disabled. (engine block is new and never been built so i am building it without DOD). Will be boring to 5.7l or making it a 383 stroker with the 383 being the most likely.
Engine will be going into a 5.7l vin R equipped 1999 GMC Sierra (classic body). I plan on using the current 4L60E tranny.]

Anyone have any recommendations of what ecu/pcm to use. Which ones to absolutley stay away from and why. Links to someone that has or is doing what I am.

One of thew most widely supported Gen3 PCM's

So i will just need a 24x ring put on the crank that I install and the correct sensor plugs along with fuel injecor harness for installing it in my GMC Sierra? I dont mind using the 24x ring at all. This truck is for pulling my camper and my boat so Im not looking to make a drag truck engine.

Make sure what ever cam you use, has the machine sensor in the back for the cam sensor, I think all the LS one do, but Im not positive. Ididn't realize they still put Gen1 motors in full size pickups, in 99, I thought they only came with 4.3s or Gen3's. I guess 2000 was the year they switched

Yep my 99 is the last year for the 5.7l vortec. Its been a good engine and still running strong for an engine with 223K miles but its getting tired and starting to burn oil so its time for a refresh and I decided if I am going to do it I might as well do it with a stroker and LS platform.
Next in line is my 85 vette. Out goes the TPI 350 and in goes a 6.0L LS.

Appreciate the info!
