Default Opinions on Low octane gas

Hi,

Just wandering everybody, how much power/timing can be achieved by using low octane gas (91 ron), in heads & cam and bolt on form in an LS1?

Thanx in advance

91 is all I can get here in California so I don't call it low octane. And when it comes to timing I always use all the advance I can get away with, thats where the horsepower and milage is.

so what are you achieving in terms of power ?

High octane gas (94,95,97,98) they say is very dense hence the loss of power, reason being is my car seems to feel that way with high octane gas ?

Filling it with 91 unleaded seems more responsive and feels like it makes more torque, maybe somebody could shed some light

Cheers

87 octane has more power i spose, but it doesn't resist detonation as well as 91. As you know with higher octane gases you can run more timing advance (and fuel too) and not break your pistons to pieces.

However it could be true that a motor tuned to 91 will produce less power with 100 octane gas, if the ecu does not try to adapt in more timing...

If your engine's not pinging your okay, what higher octane fuel allows you to do is run more timing or compression and higher octane is harder to ignite, thus your right in saying you have more power with lower octane fuel as long as your engine not pinging.

Thanks for that, i was thinking of sticking with 91 octane gas for the simple fact my LS1 makes under 450 fwhp.
