Checking ECM Is there a way to check if the ecm is burned or not? I need to check the computer on my brothers '01 Z28 because I think water got into it and fried it, but I'm not really sure. The car was working and all, until just the other day when my brother tried to turn it on one morning and nothing happened. Everything is connected and we made sure that gas was going up, and it is. The engine turned over, but doesn't start

Use a scanner. The PCM has a self diagnostic that reports a U---- DTC if damaged. If it is completely dead you won't get anything of course. Just make certain the DLC port is still powered in that case. The cigarette lighter is on the same fuse.

What I was trying to say is if you get no response from the DLC port it doesn't necessarily mean your PCM is dead. Quite often the port is dead because of a blown fuse within the circuit. That circuit happens be shared by the cigarette lighter.

Found the problem. It turned out to be an ignition switch problem. Thank God it wasn't the computer. That would've been an expensive fix since he would've had to get a replacement and get it tuned again
