Default Dash resets (odometer) on cold start

I have been told that this is a known problem but nobody had an answer for me. When I start my car when the temp is below 60 my dash resets, the gauges all max then drop to zero and then start working. The odometer also resets to zero. if I keep the car in my heated garage I never have the problem. So like I said it seems to be temp related. Any clues to how to fix this would be great.

thanks

You have a 1999 LS1 like myself. It could be a battery that is starting to die or there was a TSB for the entire gauge cluster itself. My gauges do the same thing, it's one of the 1999 LS1's glitches.

There is a TSB for this on 99 cars. Mine used to do it once in a while. Now if the car is turned off the trip odometer is reset and the gauges have fun. So mine is definetly shot. You just missed a thread a few weeks ago were 30-40 people wrote in with the same problem. It sad that GM does not do recalls like everyone else, then this could get fixed for free. As is its going to be out of our pockets.

I had the same problem. Every time i started it when it was cold outside. I replaced my battery with a optima red top. It never happened again.
